and raised in Pittsburgh; Jonas, an obnoxious Steeler and
Penguin fan, got his start in radio at Penn State in 1985.
It's at that point things began to rapidly go downhill.
programming WQWK and WQKK in State College/ Johnstown, PA,
Jonas decided to embark on a journey westward. 1996 marked the
"arrival" of Jonas Hunter in Tucson. KLPX was the
first and thus far only stop on the Tucson radio tour.
started doing Mid-days in 1998 and became Program
Director in August of 2000. KLPX saw great growth in rating
and revenue during his term and saw the creation of a Tucson
benchmark concert event known as KLPX-Fest.
Jonas started on the KLPX Morning Show
with Andy Taylor in February 2005...not is it only a brand
new challenge, but Jonas really has to work hard for a
change AND get up at the crack of ass! With the
addition of Chrissy in August of 2005, he now stands outnumbered,
but still the loudest voice in the room!
Chrissy departed in June to help her
husband's business and be a stay-at-home mom. The KLPX
Morning Show with Jonas and Andy had their final broadcast
on 96.1 KLPX on Thursday, November 29, 2007.
Ironically, most of the features and promotions that Jonas
developed remain in place at KLPX, except for KLPX-Fest
which management decided was too much of an undertaking.
It will be missed.
During the 2008 Spring Training season,
Jonas spend his time as the PA Announcer for the Arizona
Diamondbacks and Chicago White Sox and Music Console
Operator for the Colorado Rockies. Baseball everyday?
March was a great month!
Finally, in April of 2008, after
carefully making the decision to get out of radio, Jonas was
hired as the Special Events Director for the Greater Oro
Valley Arts Council (now "The Southern Arizona Arts and
Cultural Alliance"). It's just like radio, but without
a broadcast and he has to dress nicer.
When Spring Training Baseball was in
Tucson, Jonas did the Diamondbacks and White Sox Spring
Training games and now behind the microphone at Tucson Toros games.
You can hire Jonas for your next event,
party, wedding or special gathering for DJ services as well
as for mixing your band. Rates reflect the times that
we're in...that means I work for cheap!
